STATEMENT REGARDING OBJECTIONABLE CONTENT

The web pages of the Scouting Memories Project (SMP) provide access to descriptions and digital copies of photographs, memorabilia, oral and video recordings of Scouting events and activities.

The web pages contain some content that may be considered prejudiced, stereotyped, or offensive. SMP’s records span the history of the Scouting Program, and it is our charge to preserve these materials and to make them publicly accessible as part of the historical record. We take seriously our responsibilities in preserving and cataloging such material in its original format and in providing access for research and educational purposes. SMP recognizes that users may encounter some items within this collection that contain offensive language, imagery, or other forms of objectionable content. Such materials reflect the language and attitudes of the historical period in which they were created. Providing access to these historical materials does not endorse any attitudes, prejudices, or behaviors depicted therein. The SMP is committed to upholding the principal of equal and free access to unaltered historical information and supports the Boy Scouts of America’s promotion of a culture of belonging and respect and the values expressed by the Scout Oath and Scout Law.
