Requirements June 1972 until July 1980
1. Grow six vegetables from planting through harvesting.
2. Give the food value of the following:
(a) Three root or tuber crops.
(b) Three fruits or vegetables which bear above ground.
(c) Three leafy greens.
3. Tell what you did to control insects or diseases. Tell where and how to use a contact insecticide, a stomach poison, and a fungicide.
4. Do THREE of the following:
(a) Test 100 garden seeds for germination.
(b) Make a hotbed or cold frame and grow plants in the same.
(c) Clean, grade, bunch, or pack any three vegetables for market.
(d) Show one of the vegetables you have grown at a harvest festival or fair.
(e) Make a storage bin or pit for home use.
(f) Store part of the crop grown. Describe the process.
(g) Carry out a project approved by the counselor.
This merit badge may be earned as a 4-H'er by completing a club project in that subject or as an FFA member by meeting these requirements through the FFA-supervised farming program.
