Requirements June 1972 until January 2002

1. Use tin cans to make two useful things that need cutting, bending, and edging.

2. Use metal 20 gauge or thicker. Make two or more useful things from the metal. Etch a design. Hollow or otherwise shape a part. Join two pieces of metal with solder or rivets. Stamp a pattern with stamps you have made yourself.

Requirements July 1980 until January 1995

2. Make two (or more) useful things from metal which is 20 gauge or thicker. In making these, use each of the following methods:

(a) Etch a design.

(b) Hollow or otherwise shape a part.

(d) Stamp a pattern with stamps you have made yourself.

Scouting has undergone considerable transformation in recent years. Once known as an organization for the development of life skills, character and civic duty in young males across America and then internationally, the BSA brand is now all but put to rest.

The Scouting Memories Project works to preserve the history and memorabilia of scouting for years to come. If you have something to share with the community, we welcome your contributions!

The web pages of the Scouting Memories Project (SMP) provide access to descriptions and digital copies of photographs, memorabilia, oral and video recordings of Scouting events and activities.

The web pages contain some content that may be considered prejudiced, stereotyped, or offensive. SMP’s records span the history of the Scouting Program, and it is our charge to preserve these materials and to make them publicly accessible as part of the historical record. We take seriously our responsibilities in preserving and cataloging such material in its original format and in providing access for research and educational purposes.
