Requirements June 1972 until August 1982

*1. Present evidence that you have cared for a pet for 4 months. Get approval before you start.

2. Write in 200 words or more about the care, feeding, and housing of your pet. Tell some interesting facts about it. Tell why you have this kind of pet. Give local laws, if any, relating to the pet you keep.

3. Show that you have read a book or pamphlet, approved by your counselor, about your kind of pet.

4. Do any ONE of the following:

(a) Show your pet in some pet show.
(b) Start a friend raising a pet like yours. Advise him. Help him get a good start.
(c) Breed your pet. Show the offspring.
d) Train a pet in three or more tricks or special abilities.

* Work done for other merit badges cannot be used for this requirement.

Scouting Memories Project

History

Scouting has undergone considerable transformation in recent years. Once known as an organization for the development of life skills, character and civic duty in young males across America and then internationally, the BSA brand is now all but put to rest.

The Scouting Memories Project works to preserve the history and memorabilia of scouting for years to come. If you have something to share with the community, we welcome your contributions!

STATEMENT REGARDING OBJECTIONABLE CONTENT

The web pages of the Scouting Memories Project (SMP) provide access to descriptions and digital copies of photographs, memorabilia, oral and video recordings of Scouting events and activities.

The web pages contain some content that may be considered prejudiced, stereotyped, or offensive. SMP’s records span the history of the Scouting Program, and it is our charge to preserve these materials and to make them publicly accessible as part of the historical record. We take seriously our responsibilities in preserving and cataloging such material in its original format and in providing access for research and educational purposes. SMP recognizes that users may encounter some items within this collection that contain offensive language, imagery, or other forms of objectionable content. Such materials reflect the language and attitudes of the historical period in which they were created.
