Requirements March 1936 until June 1953

1. Show that he is thoroughly familiar with the essential parts of a camera and explain the purpose of each of the following: finder, lens, shutter, diaphragm opening, bellows, focusing scale.

2. Understand the basic principles of composition, selection of background and handling of light and shade.

3. Name the chemicals found in one standard developing solution and one fixing solution, and explain their purpose.

4. Submit six good-quality pictures taken, developed and printed by himself, putting into practice his knowledge of the principles in Requirement No. 2. (Not more than two pictures may be submitted from any one of the following groups, and the collection must include one from each group.)

GROUP A. Landscape or water pictures.
GROUP B. Groups of persons or street scenes.
GROUP C. Person, domestic animal or bird; wild animal or bird.
GROUP D. Architectural subjects.

History

Scouting has undergone considerable transformation in recent years. Once known as an organization for the development of life skills, character and civic duty in young males across America and then internationally, the BSA brand is now all but put to rest.

The Scouting Memories Project works to preserve the history and memorabilia of scouting for years to come. If you have something to share with the community, we welcome your contributions!

The web pages of the Scouting Memories Project (SMP) provide access to descriptions and digital copies of photographs, memorabilia, oral and video recordings of Scouting events and activities.

The web pages contain some content that may be considered prejudiced, stereotyped, or offensive. SMP’s records span the history of the Scouting Program, and it is our charge to preserve these materials and to make them publicly accessible as part of the historical record. We take seriously our responsibilities in preserving and cataloging such material in its original format and in providing access for research and educational purposes.
