Requirements January 2003 until Current

1. Give a three-to-five-minute introduction of yourself to an audience such as your troop, class at school, or some other group.

2. Prepare a three-to-five-minute talk on a topic of your choice that incorporates body language and visual aids.

3. Give an impromptu talk of at least two minutes either as part of a group discussion or before your counselor. Use a subject selected by your counselor that is interesting to you but that is not known to you in advance and for which you do not have time to prepare.

4. Select a topic of interest to your audience. Collect and organize information about the topic and prepare an outline. Write an eight-to-10-minute speech, practice it, deliver it in a conversational way.

5. Show you know parliamentary procedure by leading a discussion or meeting according to accepted rules of order, or by answering questions on the rules of order.

History

Scouting has undergone considerable transformation in recent years. Once known as an organization for the development of life skills, character and civic duty in young males across America and then internationally, the BSA brand is now all but put to rest.

The Scouting Memories Project works to preserve the history and memorabilia of scouting for years to come. If you have something to share with the community, we welcome your contributions!

The web pages of the Scouting Memories Project (SMP) provide access to descriptions and digital copies of photographs, memorabilia, oral and video recordings of Scouting events and activities.

The web pages contain some content that may be considered prejudiced, stereotyped, or offensive. SMP’s records span the history of the Scouting Program, and it is our charge to preserve these materials and to make them publicly accessible as part of the historical record. We take seriously our responsibilities in preserving and cataloging such material in its original format and in providing access for research and educational purposes. SMP recognizes that users may encounter some items within this collection that contain offensive language, imagery, or other forms of objectionable content. Such materials reflect the language and attitudes of the historical period in which they were created.
